'I must be
right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country,
the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They'd be happier.'
- Joseph Hubertus Pilates, in 1965, age 86
How does the
equipment play a role in Pilates?
Equipment for Pilates is special because it allows participants the
choice of exercising in non weight bearing, partial weight bearing, or
full weight bearing positions i.e.: lying down, sitting, standing. The
exercises can be done upright, upside down, forward, or backward. The
equipment is so exceptional; it enables many ranges of motion, which are
crucial to optimum individual performance.
The equipment includes Barrel/Spine
correctors, Cadillac Systems and Wunda Chairs.
Reformers have a sliding carriage and a
variety of pulley systems that provide changeable levels of resistance.
The greater the exercise and resistance levels, the greater your
workout; the more elevation, the greater your range of motion.
Wunda Chairs have a step or pedal with adaptable
spring resistance. They concentrate
On the legs and torso but can adjust to train other
parts of the body.
Barrel/Spine correctors are padded, solid-wood
constructions designed for enhanced strengthening and stretching
exercises of your hard-to-target shoulders, back, and torso. Open your
chest, align your spine, improve posture, and tone your muscles with
these tools, some of the discipline’s most challenging.
Follow a regular schedule with
pilates fitness equipment, and
the result will be
longer, leaner muscles, clearness of mind, and
a feeling of "well-being".
